PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
- Hospice Nurse since 1981 with Community Hospice of the Visiting Nurse Association of No. Va.,
Delaware Hospice and Hospice of Northern Virginia.
- Researcher/Project Assistant: 3G International, Inc., Springfield, Virginia, Assisting in the development of the medical "Smart Card" for use in U.S. Army field hospitals.
- Nursing Coordinator: Professional Home Nursing, L.P., Vienna, Virginia, Responsible for assisting in the establishment of a new physician-owned home care agency designed to provide high-tech oncology and general nursing care for patients at home.
- Expert Witness and Grief Counselor: Worked with the Defense in a wrongful death lawsuit. Retained to evaluate the results of grief and provide counseling to the bereaved family. Expert witness for the Defense in a case challenging the validity of a Last Will and Testament due to claims that confusion rendered the deceased legally incompetent. Verdict in both cases was for the Defense.
- Author and Public Speaker: Published a number of articles and a book on topics relating to death and dying. Have spoken nationally and internationally to professional and general audiences since 1985. Provide training seminars on topics relating to death and dying, bereavement, grief, and hospice care.
- Early Career Experience: Initial 16 years in nursing included experiences in staff and charge positions in critical care, emergency, general medical-surgical, community health and vocational rehabilitation.
